FROM LOGIE BUCHAN TO MARS

Patricia Mutch one of the daughters of Thomas A Mutch, who has the Viking I Mars Lander as his memorial site, contacted me. Between us we traced her family line back to W22 - William and Mary Shand. This line goes all the way back to J36 - John Mutch born at Logie Buchan in 1674.

It is fantastic to think that the Mutch surname has traveled from the North East of Scotland to another planet in our solar system. See the Mutches in Space entry on the Mutch History page for more details.

Updates and new Family Lines

As you know it is a long time since a newsletter has been issued so there have been a lot of changes. I will continue to work on the backlog but some of the recent updates have included:

  • Lesa Avarino contacted me about her link to Mary, daughter of James + Elspeth Walls, family line J1. She was able to provide details of Mary’s marriage and family.

  • John C Mutch also contacted me about his link to Alexander + Christina Grant, family line A23, through their son Alexander.

  • Jacqui Crighton who is Great, Great Grandmother was Elspeth, daughter of Alexander + Isabella Brown, family line A27, was able to sort out the details of this family.

  • Andre Strydom was able to provide family details for Hugh & Ann Ross, son of Hugh + Jane Rhind, family line H1.

  • I have added a new family line J99, John + Margaret Shaw. I found details of this family in the baptism records for St Pauls Episcopal church, Aberdeen.

  • I added details of the children of daughter of Robert + Jean Minty, Barbara who married Samuel Walker. This is family line R9 and the details come from the FamilySearch site. The 1929 Genealogy of the Mutch Family wrongly states that they had 8 daughters and 2 sons, it is actually the other way around!

  • Also Grant Bowman has provided the death registration details for daughters Barbara, Margaret and Anne of the above family line.

  • Grant Bowman also provided extensive details that updated Agnes & William Adams’ family, daughter of Robert + Jessie Wallace, family line R11. Grant is related to this family line through son James and Jane Thomson. He has generously provided lots of updates & corrections for the other children of the R11 family line.

  • Daphne Maddox was able to link John + Rachel Nicol, family line J80, as son of Robert + Jane Duncan, family line R3. You can find a link to her WikiTree page on the J80 page giving details of her connection to these families.

  • Helped by the above info from Daphne Maddox I was also able to add details received from Carol Doyle of her family’s link to the J80 family line.

  • Finally for this month forum user Annandale01 added details of William + Martha Thomson’s [W33] son James’ second marriage to Mary Murdoch. If anyone has contact details for this forum user can you please ask them to email me directly so that I can add more details?

A New Mutch in History

In June I am going to visit Svalbard or Spitsbergen, far to the north of Norway, so it is appropriate that next time I tell you about another Mutch with links to the frozen North. Details in the next newsletter.

Database status - We currently have details of 1,568 Mutches and 558 spouses.
