Ian Stead contacted the website to share the tremendous research he had these two family lines which had sat untouched for more than 20 years!
Roanna Schrader after a lot of research has linked her ancestry to both the G8 and A27 family lines. She wrote:
Andy Beale contacted the site with details of the family of daughter Isabella and his links to this family line. He wrote:
I found the death record of Rachel Mutch (Skene) on Scotlands People. This lists her as widow of George Mutch, Blacksmith. The informant was Wlliam Ogston, son-in-law, and this led me to daughter Elizabeth’s wedding details.
Peggy Smith confirmed her connection to this family line and sent details of son James’ marriages to twin sisters:
When Ian Shear first contacted the site he questioned the grounds for claiming daughter Christian died the same day she was born, as this family line previously showed.
Allan Lannon(?) had contacted the website earlier with details of another child for son George. He wrote:
This site will be 20 Years Old! in August and I’ve been using some time tidying up several records where I’ve notice errors, fix some formatting to make the site more readable and finish catching up from a mail server crash over 10 years ago.
Scott Milne contacted me in 2010 to inform me that daughters Isabella and Georgina were wrongly entered in IGI as being children of John + Isabella Will, instead of this family. I somehow managed to mislay Scott’s email until I found an old paper copy in 2023!
A cobblers children, blah, blah. After 20 years of updating other Mutch family lines Harry Mutch has finally taken the time to update the information under his own family line, William (son of J59) + Jessie Smith!
Sharon Burke has, since her first contact, provided a lot more information on the descendants of daughter Isabella. You can see full details of the information she provided under Family Line J59. She then followed up by sharing a lot of her research notes which provides greater detail on Isabella’s daughter Jane’s complex family history.
Isabella Sheldon while researching her Grandmothers ancestry discovered that Isabel, shown previously as the first child of John and Isabella Urquhart, was in fact born to Isabella Urquhart before her marriage to family line J94.
Cait McPhee has used DNA and a lot of research to link Jean & Margaret Mutch born to Jean/Jane Leggat, to John of family line J71.
Cait McPhee has been struggling to make sense of all those Mutches and was good enough to share what she has found on John + Christian/Margaret Simpson [J64].
Jenny Hughes contacted the website to share the tremendous work she’d done on these two family lines.
Charles Edward Mutch contacted the website to update the information already provided by Kathleen Mutch re Fredrick the yougest son of this family:

Heather Smith contacted the website about her relationship to this family:
While testing the new mobile site files, I came across various small errors or inconsistancies in the data entered. These were not serious enough to list individualy so I’m lumping them together as part of the new website format launch.
I found this couple’s marriage record on Scotland’s People some time ago but the spelling gave me some concerns as to whether it belonged with the Mutches or not. The entry gives George’s surname as “Musch” but I am assuming it is a phonetic variant and have added it.
Douglas Bruce pointed out a typo I’d made when entering the birth year of second wife Annie Ross of son John.
Douglas Bruce helped me fix an error with daughter Bathia’s death year and also managed to bring her alive by providing fascinating details of her life and connection with his Bruce family ancestors:
Nancy Loe continues to add details to this family her latest update includes a pdf of daughter Isabella’s known data and this comment:
Anna has continued her quest to confirm the lineage of her Great Gramndmother and has now managed to confirm her link to this Family Line …
It is always particulaily difficult to verify, but Anna McCabe has done a lot of work to try and connect daughter Ann and her illigitemate child, Ann, to her family records. She contacted me and we agreed there is strong circumstancial evidence on the father which hopefully can be verified in future. Anna wrote:
Matthew Davidson was kind enough to point out an error in the entry for Christian Byers, wife of Alexander family line W1:
Nancy Loe had sent me a large pdf with updated details of the family of James + Esther Nicol. I’m ashamed to admit that this lay on my ToDo pile for far too long, but now it’s been dusted off and entered.
My own paternal line goes as far back as Alexander + Janet Johnston A6 and their family has just gained another daughter thanks to information provided by Matthew Davidson:
After both taking part in an online meeting of Aberdeen & North East Scotland Family History Society Matthew Davidson sent additional details for the family of William + Christian Byers’ daughter Christian who married James Watson. David is related to this family line:
Alan Johnston contacted the website about an error he discovered with family line J9. Daughter Jane had been linked to the wrong Jane Mutch:
It is not always easy to control the family history data being gathered from a miriad of sources, but by working together we are slowly improving the accuracy of the information we have.
I found details of daughter Jean’s marriage to William Ellis on the GenealogyOnline website.
On the Diack Family website I found details of daughter Isobel’s marriage to James Diack.
I found details of daughter Helen and her parents on the Diack Family website and was able to confirm her parents from her death record in OPR.
While looking into data sent to me on the marriage of Isobel Mutch, daughter of John + Margaret Cruickshank - family line J7, I came across several marriages between the Mutch and Diack families. Including these three in a very short time span:
I noticed that I had never added the details of son James’ family provided by Seonaid Henderson to Family Line J55, so I’ve finally put this right.
One of the many excellent resources available from ABNESFHS member website is a searchable index of memorial indexes as yet unpublished. Using this I managed to update information on the following family lines:

A combination of technical issues, workload and the arrival of the next generation of my own family line, has meant that the website has not been updated as much as it should have been. My sincere apologies to anyone still waiting for a reply from me.
They tell you to “never start with an apology”, so I will just tell you that 2010 was a full and good year that unfortunately left no time for Mutches Website Newsletters. But now it is 2011 and the absence of newsletters does not mean any lack of updates on the website.
